North Catasauqua: Students back to class; follow Pa. School Bus Stopping Law

North Catasauqua Police Department reminds residents that children have already or will be soon returning to school.

A friendly reminder from the police department about the Pennsylvania School Bus Stopping Law: Motorists must stop at least 10 feet away from school buses that have their red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Motorists must stop when they are behind a bus, meeting a bus or approaching an intersection where a bus is stopped.

If you have any questions, contact Corporal Santiago, who is the North Catasauqua Police Department BusPatrol liaison.

State Rep. Zach Mako, R-183rd, reminds residents about school bus safety and to slow down for school buses.

With students returning to class, school buses are back on the roads. Motorists, parents and children are encouraged to refresh their memories about how to share the road safely.

Penalties for failure to obey school bus safety laws can result in a $250 fine, five points on a driving record and a 60-day license suspension.

Parents are reminded to ensure their children are at the bus stop early to avoid rushing. Students should stay where the bus driver can see them while boarding or exiting the bus.
