LVIA receives funding for roadway improvements

Lehigh Valley International Airport, Hanover Township (Lehigh County), will receive nearly $1 million in state funding to improve its roadways at the terminal.

The news on the Pennsylvania investment in LVIA was announced Aug. 25.

The airport will receive $940,000 to improve safety and accessibility by reconfiguring the existing terminal roadways that serve the Multimodal Transportation Center and the airport terminal to meet the latest design, safety and capacity standards.

“With Lehigh Valley International being the fourth-largest commercial service airport in Pennsylvania by passenger activity, it is an important intersection for residents of our community and tourists who are visiting family or who want to see the beauty that the Lehigh Valley has to offer,” state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd, said. “Most people want to be in and out when it comes to airports. This funding will go toward making that goal a reality and will make sure those airport roads are the safest they can be for all who use them.”

The funding will come from the Multimodal Transportation Fund, which will fund 58 highway bridge, aviation, port, bike and pedestrian projects in 37 counties across the commonwealth. The goal is to strengthen infrastructure across Pennsylvania by improving these types of projects.

“I appreciate the state’s continued investment in the Lehigh Valley International Airport, as it continues to be a reliable transportation hub for our region,” said state Sen. Nick Miller, D-14th. “By keeping the airport updated, we are ensuring that consumers will have the best experiences when they fly in and out of the Lehigh Valley.”

“This funding is a critical investment in the airport’s plan to enhance existing road infrastructure, including the improvement of safety and accessibility for all (LVIA) customers,” said Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. “Additionally, it will support aeronautical and non-aeronautical revenue opportunities that continue to drive economic development within the region.”
