Coplay: Thanks for attending, helping at Coplay Community Days
The 42nd annual Coplay Community Days was a blast! The borough thanks all who attended this fun event that supports the community.

Coplay Saengerbund, 205 S. Fifth St., will continue its concerts in September and October. Gates open 5 p.m., along with the bar and kitchen. Bands play 6-10 p.m.
The lineup includes Social Call Sept. 1, Common Bond Sept. 8, Smith Compound Band Sept. 15, American Street Band Sept. 22, Stereotype Sept. 29 and Castaways Oct. 6.

There are only two more concerts in the borough summer series. Performances will be 6-9 p.m. at Community Plaza, North Second and Chestnut streets, with Third Hand Trio Sept. 6 and Jenni Hackett Duo Sept. 13.

American Club of Coplay’s picnic is set for Sept. 9 at the pavilion, 300 Cherry St. Doors open noon, food will be 1-6 p.m., and refreshments will be available 1-9 p.m. A deejay will entertain 2-5 p.m., and the Castaways will perform 6-9 p.m.
You must be 18 years of age or older to attend.
Tickets are available at the club or hoagie shop. There is a cost.

To date, over 1,000,000 hoagies have reportedly been sold by the club.

The Saengerbund’s annual Oktoberfest is 2-7 p.m. Sept. 10. The opening parade starts 2:30 p.m., with music 3-7 p.m. by Joe Kroboth. Other features include the Auerhahn Schuhplattler dancers and a Masskrugstemmen contest.
Imported German beer and authentic German food will also be part of the day.
Open to the public, this event is sponsored by the heritage committee and has an admission cost.
Remember to wear your lederhosen, vests, hats, dirndl and more.

Autumn, the autumnal equinox, is just around the corner - 2:49 a.m. Sept. 23. On this day, the sun illuminates the northern and southern hemisphere equally.
Pagan traditions call this day Mabon. It is a harvest celebration. The Catholic church, on Sept. 29, celebrates Michaelmas as a Christian feast of St. Michael the Archangel.
Most Pagan and Christian traditions celebrate these days with a Thanksgiving-style feast.

St. John’s Lutheran Church, 18 S. Third St., will have a Blessing of the Animals service Oct. 1, starting 2 p.m. in the church parking lot.
