Lucille F. Gressley
Lucille F. “Lucy” Gressley, 68, died peacefully Aug. 15, 2023, with her husband, Richard D., by her side on her family’s farm in Maxatawny.
The couple was married June 3, 1978, in Weisenberg Lutheran Church.
She was a loving mother of Samantha Queman (John) and grandmother of Sidney Queman.
Born in Allentown, she was the daughter of Irene (Beihl) Kern of Maxatawny and the late Lee Kern.
A 1973 graduate of Kutztown High School, she worked for the Northwestern Lehigh School District in the cafeteria and as a school bus driver before retiring in 2015 after 31 years.
She was also a baker and cake decorator and was a cooking and farming demonstrator at the Kutztown Folk Festival for 45 years.
She was a former member of the Seipstown Grange, a life member of Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society and a member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church, New Tripoli, where she sang with the choir, played in the Sunday School Orchestra, sang in the “Heavenly Harmony Quartet,” and was the Handbell director, for which she was recognized in May for 30 years of service.
She was also a member of Lighthouse Community Church, Lyons.
An accomplished singer and musician, she played flute, guitar, drums and keyboard.
She, her husband and lifelong friend Curt Daub, formed the band “Country Express,” performing more than 18 years throughout Berks, Lehigh and Lancaster counties.
She enjoyed planning vacations, baking, and quilting and sewing with her granddaughter, Sidney.
Survivors include her aunts Doris (Kern) Weiser and Evelyn (Kern) Kemp, both of Topton; cousins Wanda (Kemp) Moser, Dean and Bruce DeLong, David Kemp and Joan Biehl; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by maternal grandparents Amos and Annie (Hoch) Biehl and paternal grandparents, Charles and Marguerite (Ziegler) Kern.
