Upper Macungie Township police are investigating the cause of a loud boom or vibration reported in Olde Towne.

According to Crime and Community Services Division Commander Lt. Peter Nickischer, earlier in the morning of Aug. 25 police units were dispatched for reports of a loud, ground-shaking “thud” in the area of the Olde Towne community, near the intersection of Grange and Ruppsville roads.

Officers responded to the area and checked the neighborhood and surrounding vicinity but did not find anything suspicious or unusual, Nickischer said.

In addition, officers also spoke with a representative from UGI, who confirmed there were no reported issues or problems in the area.

Lastly, officers contacted the U.S. Geological Survey, who reported no notable seismic activity in the area.

According to Nickischer, residents who contacted police reported hearing a loud “thud” or “boom” and, in some areas, the vibration that was felt shook items off of the walls inside houses.

He said at this time, the source of this thud or vibration is unknown.
