North Whitehall Municipal Building Plan approved

By MICHAEL HIRSCH

Special to The Press

During their Aug. 7 meeting, a plan for the renovation of the North Whitehall Township Municipal Building was approved by supervisors.

Township Manager Randy Cope said the building renovations are needed to plan for future growth.

“They are bursting at the seams,” he said.

A revision from an earlier scheme is that a training room will be located on the first level for easier public access.

A financial advisor told the township to proceed.

All staff were interviewed, and the renovations are expected to make employees’ jobs easier.

Approvals will take between six to eight months, then bids will be due in February 2024.

Construction is expected to start in May 2024.

The public works department will remain in the garage, but staff will relocate to a temporary location to be determined, so township employees will not be in the way or the work will be disruptive.

In other matters, the Timberidge Luxury Apartments were approved 2-1 by the board.

Supervisor Al Geosits disapproved of sidewalk deferrals.

The deferral was mentioned at the July 3 meeting.

An earlier plan was for age restricted units, but that is no longer the case.

There will be 72 units, in six, three-story buildings.
