Boys soccer looking for more wins

When you lose 11 seniors off a four-win team, the upcoming season could be a struggle.

Catasauqua head boys soccer coach Josh Inman understands that type of feeling from the past. Last season, the Rough Riders finished with an overall 4-12-2 season with expectations a lot higher. In the previous season, the Roughies also registered four victories.

So, Inman and his troops will be looking to jump over the four-wins-and-beyond hurdle this fall.

During the summer, Inman remained optimistic his club ccould reach a new level despite their inexperience.

“We have a younger team with less experience than in the past few years, but that was to be expected after our large graduation last year,” said Inman. “We have a few returning starters that will prove to be important to our team.”

Incoming senior Jonah Arancibia will be expected to provide a strong presence and senior leadership to a maturing group.

Returning starters junior Jonathan Cordon-Pinto and sophomore Jaeden Olivencia are expected to be impact players.

Yet, it will come down to how the team matures along the way.

“We have a lot of newcomers and are excited to see how productive and how helpful they can be to the varsity team,” stressed Inman. “We are really hoping to have a full JV team this year to help with development of the less-experienced players to get them involved with the varsity as soon as possible.”

Inman has seen interest building in the program, and anticipates an overall rise in the overall depth.

“Interest in the team appears to be growing, and numbers should keep going up,” he added. “If anyone at the high school level wants to join us, we would not turn them away.

“Anyone can help create a type of impact that can change and improve a team.”

The Roughies had their lone scrimmage against Kutztown Aug. 21, and then open the regular season with Nativity BVM Aug. 26.
