Traffic concerns raised in Lower Macungie Township

At the Aug. 17 Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners meeting, a resident spoke about the intersection of Schoeneck Road and Scenic View Drive at the Hills of Lockridge. Recently, there have been four major accidents at this intersection. The resident is seeking more signage and pavement markings with concerns for public safety and, soon, school bus stop safety.

There are several roads closed within the development which may be adding to increased traffic at this intersection.

Some signage has been added recently. The traffic engineer will be advised of the ongoing problems. Further information will be forwarded to those expressing their concerns.

Another resident spoke about tractor trailer parking along residential areas near Hills of Lockridge. There have been several New Jersey registered trucks parked with expired inspection stickers. These trucks are also posted “for sale.” In addition, a long truck has been parked along a residential road in that area. These concerns will be addressed.

During one of the serious accidents, a tree was damaged as well as a fence around a retention pond. There is an opening at this area which occurred awhile ago and the fence remains damaged and open. This is a major concern when it comes to safety, particularly if a rainstorm should occur.

A resident expressed her concerns for the Lehigh Valley Town Center project, mostly over traffic concerns. The area of Hamilton Boulevard and the bypass is already heavily traveled with traffic backed up often. Difficulties arise when an emergency vehicle must use this corridor. It also encourages motorists to travel through the Shepherd Hills development, breaking the speed limit.

Concern was also expressed by Robert Ibach who is the township manager in Upper Macungie Township. His concerns are regarding Schantz Road. The area of concern is the one lane bridge and the spring. In addition, concern was expressed over flooding of the area and included Cetronia Road in this flooding concern.

Lower Macungie received word from Gov. Josh Shapiro Lower Macungie Township has been awarded a preliminary grant for the Green Light-Go Funds. This will enable the township to include the lights at Kressler Road and Hamilton Boulevard and Interstate 78 and Hamilton Boulevard in improvements. The amount is for $250,000.

Hillside School will be recognized for its 40th Anniversary. A proclamation will be presented Aug. 28.

Resolution 2023-45 was approved. This is for a security release for ABE Doors redevelopment.

A sewer module was considered for Stone Hill Haven which is the one lot subdivision at 6702 Mountain Road. This is at the corner of Mountain and Gehman roads.

Resolution 2023-46 was approved for the compensation agreement with Robert Muse for the right of way at a property at 7800 Creamery Road. A grading easement is also included.
