Scott Allen Smith

Scott Allen Smith, 68, of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and formerly of Whitehall, died Aug. 16, 2023, in the Halifax Hospice Care Center from pancreatic cancer. He was the husband of Jennifer L. (Jones) Smith for 23 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Walter J. and Mary P. (Kerr) Smith.

He was a Catasauqua High School and Allentown Police Academy graduate.

He worked first with the North Catasauqua and Lehigh University police departments. He became a patrol officer for the city of Bethlehem and then with the South Whitehall Township Police Department. He retired with more than 35 years in law enforcement. He was, for 25 years, a part-time school bus driver for and also retired from Catasauqua Area School District. He was chief police officer for several years for Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Schnecksville.

He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown.

He was, for many years, a volunteer firefighter. He was a lifetime member of Fraternal Order of Police, Le-Hampton Lodge 35.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Matthew R. and his wife Chelsea of Northampton and Nathan S. of Catasauqua; a brother, Timothy M. Smith of Northampton; two granddaughters, Charli and Andi; in-laws, Clarence and Susan Jones, Kevin and Pamela Roth and Leslie Bartholomew, all of Orefield; three nieces, Taylor Arntz, Brooke Bartholomew and Steffany Rubel; two nephews, Andrew Roth and Andrew Smith; and a godchild, Emma Roseman.

He was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth R. Smith; and two sons, Jeffrey M. Smith and Stephen K. Smith.

There will be a calling time 9:30-11 a.m., followed by a memorial service 11 a.m., Aug. 29 at the church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown.
