Last concerts at Emmaus Community Park announced
The Woman’s Club of Emmaus invites all Pinochle and Bridge players to their dessert card party 1 p.m. Sept. 7 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St., Emmaus. There is a cost as it is the major fundraising activity for the club’s scholarship program. There will be delicious desserts and prizes. The Emmaus Public Library will partner with the Allentown Health Bureau for “A Matter of Balance” program this fall. The program will run for eight Thursdays 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 7 through Oct. 26 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room. This acclaimed health program is geared to decrease fall risk through physical strength, flexibility and balance. If you are 60 or older, have fall concerns or experiences, or would like to increase your mobility and independence, then enroll for the program. The series is limited to 12 participants, so RSVP by calling 610-965-9284 or signing up at the desk.
The Friends of the Emmaus Public Library will hold its monthly meeting 7 p.m. Sept. 7 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room. The meeting is open to all friends, volunteers and staff. Anyone is welcome to become a Friend of the EPL, even if you are not a member or do not reside in an EPL-served area. The group divides into six committees, which meet during the month to organize events and operate the library. You may join for a small fee and all donations may be considered charitable contributions for Federal Income Tax purposes. Friends will be invited to special events and receive the newsletter “Friend to Friend.”

The EPL Daytime Book Club will meet 2-3 p.m. Sept. 5 to review Agatha Christie’s “And Then There Were None.” The novel focuses on 10 secretive people invited to a secluded mansion and the guests begin to mysteriously perish. The book is available via the apps Libby and Hoopla, or you may borrow a copy. Adults may sign up by emailing eplcollection@cliu.org or by calling the library. Come with ideas for 2024’s selected novels.
The Daytime Book Club’s October meeting will center on “The Mystery of Mrs. Christie,” by Marie Benedict.
The teen writing group meets every second Thursday at the library. Drop by the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room 6-8 p.m. to learn more about the writing process. The writing group is open to all middle and high school students and participants are welcome to share and discuss their writing.
The library also offers virtual writing events, with their Facebook Writing Prompts held 7-8:30 p.m. every first Thursday of the month. Visit www.facebook.com/emmauspl.org during that time and a new prompt will appear every 15 minutes.
The library will be closed Sept. 2-4 for the Labor Day holiday.
The third annual East Penn School District Education Foundation Golf Outing will be held Oct. 2 at Brookside Country Club, 901 Willow Lane, Macungie. The day includes a continental breakfast 8 a.m., shotgun start 9 a.m. and lunch following 18 holes of golf. This scramble tournament also features a raffle, prizes and numerous sponsorship opportunities. The event’s funds will fuel STEAM-powered education in the East Penn School District. The 2023 Emmaus Music Series will conclude in the next few weeks, with Audio Files performing in the Triangle 6:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 25. The last two concerts at Emmaus Community Park will showcase Scott Marshall and the Highway Souls Aug. 27 and The Swingtime Dolls Sept. 3.
The Emmaus Recreation and Entertainment Commission offers free Zumba at Emmaus Community Park in the Sam Landis Arts Pavilion 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through September. From October through April, Zumba is held at Faith Presbyterian Church, North Second and Cherokee streets, Emmaus. Call the church office at 610-967-5600 with questions.

The Borough of Emmaus Community Yard Sale will be held 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 9.
Yard sale permits are not required on community yard sale days, so any resident may arrange yard sale items on their lawn during this time. The rain date will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 10. Come promote reuse and recycling, while finding some hidden treasures and supporting your neighbors.
The Emmaus Main Street Partners will host the annual Farewell to Summer Festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Emmaus Triangle and Main Street. The Triangle will host face painting, local craft vendors and more. Main Street will feature a “Bring Your Own Shirt Tie Dye Station,” the Emmaus Historical Society Heritage Festival, story time and a Scarecrow Trail. You may pick up a Scarecrow Trail Passport at the Seven Generation Charter School tent, which will entitle you to prizes and merchandise from local businesses. Use the hashtag #emmausscarecrowhunt2023 when you post on social media to be entered to win an Emmaus prize pack. Several food trucks will be open, along with the local sandwich and ethnic restaurants around the festival. Triple Sun Spirits and Yergey Brewing will serve as beverage vendors for those over 21. The Emmaus Community Pool season is drawing to a close after a fantastic summer. Due to the beginning of school, the pool will close 5 p.m. Aug. 27 and will be closed Aug. 28-31. The pool will reopen for the Labor Day weekend noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 1-3, and will close for the season at 5 p.m. Sept. 4. They want to thank everyone who supported the Emmaus Community Pool this summer. They look forward to seeing you next year!
Emmaus Borough Council will meet 6-7 p.m. Sept. 5 and 18. Meetings take place at the temporary borough offices, 420 S. 10th St., Emmaus and via Zoom.

St. Ann Catholic Church, 415 S. Sixth St., Emmaus, will host its 40th annual Fall Fest Sept. 7-9. Admission is free, with countless activities for all ages. There will be 50/50 cash bingo, basket raffles, a liquor wheel, raffle tickets, live music and children’s entertainment programs. Children and adults may also enter this year’s baking contests. Carnival rides are returning and ride bracelets are being presold online at a discount. The Fall Fest also offers numerous food options, such as potato pancakes, Manhattan clam chowder, sandwiches, fried foods and sweets. Mark your calendars for the Emmaus Heritage Festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 on the grounds of the Emmaus Historical Society. This is a great chance to learn about and celebrate Emmaus’ heritage. Weavers, blacksmiths, candlemakers and members of the Heritage Alliance will be among the many displays and demonstrations to see. Also, enjoy live music, food truck, crafts and games. This event is held in conjunction with The Emmaus Main Street Partners Farewell to Summer Celebration.
The historical society will start a new season of programs 7 p.m. Sept. 20 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The first program of the fall will be “The Emmaus 125th Homecoming Parade of 1984.” The program, along with a video, will be presented by Past President Bill Barto.
