A 52-year-old Allentown man was cited for driving his vehicle at an unsafe speed after his 2016 International Harvester tractor trailer overturned 12:54 p.m. July 3 shutting down Route 22, South Whitehall Township.
According to State Police Troop M, Bethlehem, Richard A. Weatherspoon was driving a commercial vehicle carrying waste, when he attempted to enter Route 22 West via the on-ramp from Cedar Crest Boulevard.
Police allege Weatherspoon was negotiating the on-ramp at a high rate of speed and the truck overturned spilling waste across all lanes of the roadway.
Weatherspoon, who was wearing his seat belt, sustained possible minor injuries, police say.
According to police, he refused EMS transport to the hospital.
Route 22 West was closed for a majority of the clean up process and was reopened at approximately 6 p.m., police said.
In addition to being cited for driving at an unsafe speed, Weatherspoon was being cited for allegedly having an accident involving an overturned vehicle and careless driving.
Cetronia Ambulance Corps assisted at the scene.
South Whitehall Fire Department, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Yocum’s Towing all assisted with scene safety and cleanup.
The tractor-trailer combo was towed from the scene by Yocum’s.
