BETHLEHEM social calendar 8-23

CACLV GRANT: Local anti-poverty nonprofit Community Action Lehigh Valley (Community Action) received a $100,000 grant from Wells Fargo to support its housing counseling, financial coaching, small business and neighborhood revitalization programs. Community Action Executive Director Dawn Godshall was recognized at Musikfest for the organization’s work to improve the quality of life for people in the Lehigh Valley, the region’s largest free music festival. Wells Fargo Greater Pennsylvania Regional Branch Network Executive Laura Haffner presented the grant to Community Action and thanked them for their work to advance economic opportunity in the region.

STEELSTACKS ARTIST: ArtsQuest and the Steel Weekend Arts Subcommittee has selected Dr. Lee Riley for the second annual sculpture artist at SteelStacks exhibition. Riley’s sculpture will be installed at the weekend of Sept. 29 in front of the Visitor Center at SteelStacks, presented by St. Luke’s University Health Network. During the Steel Weekend, Dr. Lee Riley will host an in-person, on-site artist talk on the date of installation. The sculpture will be on display from October 2023 to October 2024.

Each year ArtsQuest and the Steel Weekend Arts Subcommittee send out a national call to experienced professional sculptors, students and emerging artists who were invited to submit their work for the annual Sculpture at SteelStacks exhibition.

ALDI’S NEW LOCATION CORRECTION: ALDI will be opening its new location in Bethlehem at 3833 Nazareth Pike Thursday, Aug. 24, at 8:45 a.m. The store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The store at 3050 Easton Ave. will close its doors Wednesday, Aug. 23. The first 100 customers at the new store will receive a gift bag filled with a sampling of ALDI Fan Favorites products and a gift card as part of the ALDI Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program. Shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 ALDI gift card during the Grand Opening weekend from Aug. 24 through 27.

CARS & COFFEE: Cars & Coffee series at SteelStacks, presented by Koch Automotive Group, will be presented one Sunday each month through September, with the diverse themes of American Muscle, European and Japanese vehicles. The 2023 dates are confirmed to be American Muscle, Aug. 27 – Japanese Theme, and the Grand Finale Sept. 17. Cars & Coffee encourages car enthusiasts from throughout the region to come together for a fun-filled morning featuring a variety of vehicles of all makes and models. The series typically draws more than 20,000 visitors throughout the year. All events will be held from 9 a.m. to noon

SANGRIA FEST: ArtsQuest, in partnership with Upper Macungie Township and Sports and Social Allentown, announces the sixth annual SangriaFest. This year’s event, which sold out in 2022, promises to be ‘bigger and better,’ with a larger footprint than years past, offering more wineries and food vendors, expanded lawn games – including a Cornhole tournament – and of course, more Sangria! This festive celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 2, at Grange Park and tickets are on sale NOW at ArtsQuest.org. The event runs from 4 (3 p.m. for premium access hour) to 7 p.m. Premium access hour includes four exclusive Sangria samples, catered menu, exclusive access to a private bar, air-conditioned restrooms and access to VIP parking. Please note there are a limited number of tickets to this event and there is no guarantee that tickets will be available day-of or at the gates. This is a 21+ event.
