Peter J. Yanakis, 96, of Schnecksville, died Aug. 1, 2023, in Whitehall Manor, Whitehall Township.
He and his late wife, Mary (Kostandelis) Yanakis, were married more than 66 years before her death.
Born in 1926 in Union City, N.J., he was the son of the late James and Bella (Antonka) Yanakis.
He built a home in Huntington, N.Y., where he and his wife raised their family.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II with duties in the Philippines and Japan.
His career was highlighted by more than 35 years with AT&T, and before that with RCA and American Airlines.
He was an avid fan of Greek festivals and would regularly schedule trips to align with festivals up and down the East Coast.
In his later years, he would look forward to Bethlehem’s St. Nicholas’ Greek Orthodox Church festivals in spring and fall, with four days of dining on “yeeros” and dancing.
His survivors include children James Yanakis of Long Island, N.Y., Dean Yanakis of Florida, and Eleni M. Katz (Jeff) of Schnecksville; and grandchildren Collin, Jackie, Dimitri and Stavros.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 1607 W. Union Blvd., Bethlehem.
Viewing 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday in the church.
Interment with military honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
