Jim Slider, 93, of Luther Crest retirement community, South Whitehall, died July 31, 2023.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late James Leonard and Rachel Slider.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Leonard.

A 1947 graduate of Allentown High School, he served honorably in the U.S. Army where he was a paratrooper, completing more than 35 jumps.

He and his late wife, Dorla Dean, shared 68 years together.

A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, South Whitehall, he was a previous longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Pottstown, where he was very active for many years.

He was a grocery store manager in Pottstown, and became a supervisor for the buying department in Philadelphia.

After moving to Marathon, Fla., he again managed a grocery store.

He enjoyed a wide variety of sports and activities including boating, water skiing, windsurfing, bowling, riding motorcycles and flying gyrocopters.

He was a member of the Roamers Hiking Group in Pottstown and the Bocce Team at Luther Crest.

He enjoyed playing any and all types of games.

He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

His survivors include a daughter, Cindi Dvornicky and husband, Joseph; sister Peg Samois; grandsons Jared Dvornicky and wife, Kerry, and James Dvornicky; great-grandchildren Alexander and Claire Dvornicky; and nephew, Jim Samois.
