PTO Popsicle playdate for kindergarten students Aug. 23
Kindergarten families are invited to the kindergarten open house and PTO Popsicle playdate, 6-8 p.m. Aug. 23 at Salisbury Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill Ave., Allentown.
Parents/guardians and their kindergarten students are invited to join others from the Class of 2036 on the SES rear playground 6-7 p.m. for a PTO-sponsored Popsicle playdate. Kindergarten open house will begin 7 p.m. in the SES gymnasium. Families will attend a presentation by staff and have an opportunity to meet the teacher, tour the building and visit the classroom. This is an important event for families to attend as teachers will be sharing information about the upcoming school year, including routines and expectations.
A school bus will also be on site to offer kindergartners a chance to ride around the block and learn some important bus safety rules ahead of their first day.
Salisbury Township schools open Aug. 28 for students entering grades kindergarten, fifth and ninth grades. All students report Aug. 29.
Students attending Lehigh Career and Technical Institute will be transported to and from the high school at their scheduled time.
Students will have full days of school Aug. 29, 30 and 31. There is no school for any student Sept. 1 or 4. School will resume for all students Sept. 5.
Device distribution will happen during school hours Aug. 30. Please remember to have the Device Agreement A, handbook consent form and the optional insurance fee completed and ready to be turned in for your students.
Please remember all student information is sent via the portal, including schedules, bus schedules and teacher assignments. Most of this information is already loaded. If you have issues accessing the portal, call the appropriate school for assistance.
The district is also changing lunch accounts so if your student will be purchasing lunch at school, make sure you create a payschools.com account. Any previous lunch balances will carry over to the new system.
Salisbury Township School District is now accepting nominations for the Alumni Wall of Honor. Visit the Alumni Wall of Honor page at www.salisburysd.org under Community to complete a nomination application. Applications are due by Oct. 1.
If your family is in need of assistance in obtaining school supplies, complete a form on the district website. Pick up of the supplies will be 1-3 p.m. Aug. 22. An email with pickup instructions will be sent before this date. You must complete a separate form for each student you are requesting supplies for. You have the option to receive a box of supplies or a backpack with supplies. If your student has a backpack but is still in need of supplies, indicate they do not need a backpack on the form. Salisbury Township continues to be hiring for many openings. There will be a job fair 4-6 p.m. Aug. 23. Bring your resume to Salisbury High School for an on the spot interview.
The Virtual Academy of Salisbury Township is a free, full-time virtual learning option for K-12 students in the district. Two information sessions are scheduled: 1-2 p.m. Aug. 22 at the administration building, 1140 Salisbury Road or 6-7 p.m. Aug. 22 via Google Meet. Upcoming school board meetings include a curriculum and technology committee meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 16 and 7 p.m. Sept. 13 followed by a school board meeting. The operations and finance committee meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Sept. 6. All meetings are livestreamed on the district YouTube channel. The AMC Summer Movie Camp continues for a few more weeks. With low priced tickets Wednesdays and Saturdays, this is a great way to spend some time with the kids. Opening Aug. 19 and playing through Aug. 23 will be “The Croods: A New Age” and opening Aug. 26 and playing through Aug. 30 will be “Sonic the Hedgehog 2.” These are the last two movies for the summer. The 2023 Frank Yelinko Memorial Fund Golf Tournament is still looking for golfers. The event will be held Sept. 9 at the Club at Twin Lakes. It will begin 8 a.m. with a shotgun start so plan to arrive by 7 a.m. The cost per golfer includes a round of golf, a cart, a gift, lunch, prizes and door prizes. Plan ahead now to attend a free concert at Franko Park 4 p.m. Sept. 9. The AM Radio Tribute Band will perform. Bring your blankets, chairs and some snacks and enjoy a night of music in the park.
The Devonshire drop-off site will be open Aug. 17 and 19 and the Franko site will be open Aug. 21, 24 and 26. Hours will remain 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
