Lehigh Valley Hospital (LVH) is named as one of the top hospitals in the United States for orthopedics, ranking 27th nationwide on the 2023-2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. This is the 24th time LVH has been nationally-recognized on the best hospitals list since 1996.

LVH is also ranked as the top hospital in the region for the 10th consecutive time by U.S. News & World Report and stands among the Top 10 hospitals in Pennsylvania, ranking sixth on the 2023-2024 list.

Additionally, U.S. News rated LVH as “high-performing” in five specialties and 15 procedures and conditions. Each “high performing” rating means LVH is considered among the Top 10 percent for that rated specialty.

The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common conditions and procedures.

The U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Rankings rely on information provided to Medicare claims and is not reliant on self-reported data. Additionally, its methodology puts significant focus on evaluating the quality of care provided and considers patient acuity and volumes.

On the 2023-24 Best Hospitals list, LVH earned a “high performing” rating in five adult specialties:

• Gastroenterology and GI Surgery

• Geriatrics

• Neurology and Neurosurgery

• Pulmonology and Lung Surgery

• Urology

LVH also is listed as “high-performing” in 15 Common Adult Procedures and Conditions tracked by U.S. News:

• Abdominal aortic aneurysm

• Aortic valve surgery

• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

• Colon cancer surgery

• Diabetes

• Heart attack

• Heart failure

• Hip replacement

• Kidney failure

• Knee replacement

• Leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma

• Lung cancer surgery

• Pneumonia

• Prostate cancer surgery

• Stroke

U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals across 15 specialties and 21 procedures and conditions. Only 12 percent of evaluated hospitals earned a Best Hospitals ranking. Hospitals awarded a “Best” designation excelled at factors such as clinical outcomes, level of nursing care and patient experience.
