Teacher assignments now available on portal

Special to The Press

The most anticipated day of the summer is here! Teacher assignments are now available on the Sapphire portal. Check it out!

Also, if your child plans on buying lunch throughout the year, don’t forget to set up and put money on your child’s lunch account. It is now called Payschools.com; it is no longer Myschoolbucks.

Can I just add a word of advice? As someone who monitors in the cafeteria, pay attention to what your child purchases. As much as we try to watch every student and encourage them to eat their lunch first, some get past us and hardly eat any of their lunch, throw it away and get one or sometimes two snacks or ice creams a day. Just imagine the sugar rush and crash in the afternoon. Please help the teachers and talk to you student about the importance of eating a healthy lunch.

Do you have a student heading to kindergarten this year? There are two events on the calendar just for the youngest students. The PTO is hosting a Popsicle playdate 6-7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Salisbury Elementary School on the rear playground. Park in the parking lot and walk around to the back of the building on the left hand side. This is the perfect opportunity for them to meet some of their classmates before the first day of school.

Immediately following the Popsicle playdate, at 7 p.m., head to the inside of the building for an open house presentation by SES staff. There will be a building tour where you can visit the classroom and meet your teacher. You and your student will learn all about what is to come this school year. Lastly, there will be a school bus there to take your kindergartner for a ride around the block to both get them familiar with it and learn how to safely ride the bus. Hope to see you all there.

Is your student in grades 5-12 interested in becoming a Salisbury twirler? They are currently having open gym nights 6:30-8 p.m. every Tuesday in August. You can contact coach Lynn Unger at lunger@salisburysd.org for more information.

There is a school board meeting scheduled 7 p.m. Aug. 16 in the administration building.

The Salisbury Yard Waste Drop-off sites are open for the season. The Franko site will be open Aug 10, 12 and 21. Devonshire will be open Aug. 14, 17 and 19. As always, hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
