At the July 19 Hanover Township, Lehigh County, Council meeting, public works Director Josef Fragnito reported on the summer activities. He noted much of the summer-specific work was completed by the township’s summer help workers.
Fragnito noted his team has PVC conduit being installed at all the township parks. Township curbs at intersections and other locations requiring painting are being completed, along with the painting of 16 fire hydrants. Fragnito said he is very happy with the work ethic of this year’s group of summer workers.
Public works is keeping an eye on the parks, particularly Canal Street Park, 1960 Dauphin St. That will be the location of the township’s annual Community Night. The event is set for 4-7:30 p.m. Aug. 22. There will be local food trucks, drinks and ice cream.
Invited dignitaries are the township council members; state Sen. Nick Miller, D-14th; state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-133rd; Pennsylvania State Police; Han-Le-Co Fire Department leaders and members; representatives from Miller Keystone Blood Center; Lehigh Valley International Airport leaders; Base Engineering representatives; and more.
Tootsie the Clown, Hawk Mountain representatives, an animal petting zoo and pony rides, pet adoption and local craft vendors will be present. There will be free child fingerprinting.
The main attraction will be Fran Mayville, a singer and songwriter from Emmaus. Mayville has been performing in the Lehigh Valley for about 30 years. He plays a variety of styles including acoustic, blues, classic rock and country music.
An attendee at the meeting asked council Chairman Bruce Paulus to describe Mayville’s music. It was noted, “Fran Mayville is Hanover Township’s answer to Elvis Presley.”
Councilman Robert Lawlor asked council to consider increasing the visibility of four-way stop intersections, particularly on Troxell Street due to reported excessive speeding and some motorists going through the stop signs. Township Manager Melissa Wehr said she will look into prices for larger signs and check costs for signs that have lights around the perimeter of the sign.
Wehr also noted the River Central Comprehensive Plan update meeting recommendations were incorporated into the plan. Wehr added a vote to approve the plan will be sometime during August.
The township continues its search for an additional code enforcement officer. Interested applicants can call the township office to apply.
Council approved the authorization for the manager to reduce the letter of credit of A. Duie Pyle Land Development, 450 Lloyd St., Allentown, from $1,906,172.13 to $259,932.56, and for the 18-month maintenance period to commence subject to the execution of the required agreements.
