Community yard sale benefits NECC Summer Camp

The Northeast Neighborhood Center held its inaugural community yard sale June 10, welcoming over 30 vendors. Coupled with a bake sale at the same time, the Center’s marketing and development director Chrisdee Lawyer said proceeds would be used to support youth programming like their summer camp and after school activities. “Everyone has sold something,” said Lawyer, “and people have been coming in and out all day.”

One vendor who wished to remain anonymous said, “I think it has a lot of potential and I love the mission behind what they’re doing.”

Vendors could pull into a parking lot space or set up a table in the community room of the NECC.

Lawyer explained that residents of the Marvine Pembroke housing community are not allowed to hold yard sells by the Bethlehem Housing Authority, so under the auspices of the NECC and with cooperation of the Authority residents could either sell or shop, or both, at the Center’s yard sale.

“I think we’ll try it again,” said Lawyer.

NECC’s summer camp ran for seven weeks during June and July, offering activities such as arts & crafts, swimming, games, reading and field trips for the 40 7 to 13-year-old children who participated.
