NORTH WHITEHALL: Union UCC having family picnic

BY SUSAN RUMBLE

Special to The Press

After the 10:30 a.m. worship service in the grove on Aug. 13, Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will have its annual family picnic.

All are welcome to join in this time of food, fun and fellowship.

Hot dogs, turkey barbecues, snacks and beverages will be provided.

Desserts and side dishes may be brought along to share.

Games and a cake walk will be featured after lunch.

Special music will be provided by the Patrick Kerssen Trio.

A native of Bethlehem, Kerssen averages more than 200 performances each year at festivals throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

Kerssen’s Trio performs a variety of styles, including hard bop and soul, rhythm, and blues.

At Moravian University, Kerssen serves as an artist lecturer, and staff accompanist.

There’s a lot to look forward to at this event, including time in the beautiful grove and a chance to be with people from the community and church.

Pastor James Gottwald and Jackson Pyne from St. John’s United Church of Christ, Laurys Station, traveled to Indianapolis recently for the denomination’s General Synod.

They joined 20 other delegates from the Penn Northeast Conference who met with representatives from around the country for seminars, learning sessions, discussions, debates, and decisions regarding the work of the UCC at the national and global level.

The people who attended enjoyed inspiring guest speakers and celebrated congregations which are new in their affiliation with the UCC.

Synod participants took a look at numerous social justice concerns.
