Stingrays win Suburban swim title
The Bethlehem Stingrays were crowned Lehigh Valley Suburban Swim League champions after outracing seven other teams at the Gold Championship Meet on July 22 at Northampton.
Two hundred twenty points separated the first-place Stingrays, coached by Evan Kocon, and the second-place Macungie Bears, coached by Brandon Mazepa.
Competitors, ages 13-19, raced in the first of two sessions, and swimmers under 13 years old raced in the second session.
The Stingrays’ first win came from Natalie Brezinsky in the 15 & Over 50 freestyle (26.31), and teammate Danny Lehr followed up with a win for the boys in the same event (21.96).
Leah Onia and Adam Barlowe won the 13-14 50 breaststroke (34.77 and 31.24), and Malcolm Collins won the 15 & Over 50 breast (27.08).
Audrey Bloss-Ferry gained first-place points in the 13-14 100 IM (1:08.60) and the 50 butterfly (29.31).
Lehr out touched Quakertown’s Josh Einolf to win the 50 fly (24.17 to 24.20).
Lehr also won the 50 backstroke (24.36), and Bloss-Ferry came up first in the 100 free (1:00.69).
Liam Powers, Theo Collins, Alden Feliciano, and Nathaniel Krakowski combined to win the 9-10 100 medley relay (1:11.44), and Camila Wilson, Alexandra Yerk, LeLe Waldman, and Liana Brandes won the same event for the girls (1:06.66).
The foursome of Jack Amato, Desmond Murray, Darren Nguyen, and Theodore Shang came in first in the 11-12 100 medley relay (1:03.53).
In the 8 & Under 25 breast, Landon Black took first place (23.83), as did Yerk (17.32), and Theo Collins (19.93).
Waldman placed first in the 25 fly (14.75).
Yerk went on to win the 25 back (16.50) and the 25 free (13.19).
Bethlehem and Macungie traded first and second place points in several events, but in team scores, the Stingrays out swam the Bears, 1,340-1,120.
Soleco finished the meet in third place with 931.5 points, and Northampton was fourth with 766.5 points.
Lower Macungie came in fifth with 712 points, Quakertown was sixth with 599 points, Whitehall placed seventh with 598 points, and Palmerton was eighth with 101 points.
