The South Parkland Connie Mack baseball team defeated North Parkland 10-1 in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs on Wednesday, July 12.
Tied 1-1 heading into the last of the third, South Parkland began the rout by plating four runs in the frame. Coach Don Friday’s club scored on a wild pitch, then Benjamin Taylor singled, scoring another run, and Brady Derr doubled, scoring two runs.
Friday’s boys added three more runs in the fourth, another in the fifth and in the sixth to forge great support for pitcher Riley Zimmerman, who earned the win. The starting pitcher allowed four hits and one run over five innings, striking out five and walking two. Carter Delong came out of the bullpen to shut down North Parkland in relief.
The win earned South Parkland a spot in the semifinals against Moore Township last Friday.
The win over the Buffaloes came after the Trojans completed a 15-1-1 regular season and with it earned a first-round bye in the playoffs. The regular season’s final game occurred July 7 with a 17-4 rout over Freemansburg and came after a 4-4 tie against Northern Valley the night before.
South Parkland got on the board against Northern Valley in the top of the first after Derr slapped a RBI single, scoring one run and Connor Gerhart doubled, scoring two runs. The Trojans plated their final during in the second after Carter Delong singled after a seven pitch at bat.
Northern Valley tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a double by Aiden Freeman and a single by Shane Hughes.
