PRESS PHOTO BY JIM MARSH Firefighters at Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company, at the regular Monday evening drill night July 24, reviewed and practiced techniques and protocols related to clearing a structure of smoke after a fire. Using nontoxic smoke generators and portable high speed and high capacity fans, the firefighters used a principle of “positive pressure ventilation” to move smoke from interior spaces to specific venting doors and windows of the structure. The firefighters also practiced the use and placement of large tarpaulins to cover items not directly threatened by fire to save and salvage furniture or personal items from smoke and debris in a home fire.
