Bell tower dedication

Conrad Abelovsky, Northampton American Legion Post 353 service officer, acted as master of ceremonies during a July 29 dedication of the bell tower at the Veterans Memorial Plaza, Washington and Dewey avenues, Northampton.

A number of veteran dignitaries were on hand, as were two large donors. Attending from Post 353 was Dennis Laury. Northampton Catholic War Veterans Post 454 Commander Bruce Shellock had the honor of ringing the bell for the first time after its dedication was presented. Larry Weiss, treasurer of the Northampton CWV, was also at the dedication.

MGM Concrete Contractors representatives Brian Muschko and Michael Gruppo attended. MGM, of Northampton, provided the concrete base.

Northampton was, to a great extent, founded and flourished as the cement industry grew in the Lehigh Valley. In fact, the Northampton Area School District mascot name is Konkrete Kids.

Woodrow Buskirk Sr., Scott Pedersen and Steve Yavorski provided the volunteer labor in the construction of the bell tower.

A couple, who requested anonymity, donated a significant amount to fund the project. They were profusely thanked for their consideration and support for this important project.

All these folks, along with some residents also in attendance, gathered to celebrate the teamwork necessary for the completion and dedication of the bell tower.
