LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Moore players always ready

All season long, Moore Township manager Jarad Haupt has had a cautious approach about his club, notably because they lost a number of players from their state Connie Mack championship team from last year.

Fortunately for him and his players, Moore Township may be peaking at the right time.

The Redhawks defeated Stroudsburg, 9-1, in the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack championship game. It was their second championship over the last three years, winning their first title in 2019. Moore Township was the runner-up in the 2021 and ‘22 seasons.

To get there, Moore Township beat Franklin Township (5-0), Nazareth (5-4), and South Parkland (4-0). They lost to Nazareth, South Parkland, and Stroudsburg during the regular season.

The Red Hawks would move on to state but fell to Norriton, the fifth seed from the Bux-Mont League in their opening game before eventually falling in the state playoffs.

But over the past few weeks, Haupt has seen a consistent thread.

“The boys have been playing well,” he said. “We have been playing very clean baseball defensively. Offensively, we have an approach at the plate, and the guys have been trusting the process and getting the job done. This group has improved every game, and it has shown in the results, as they have become more disciplined at the plate.”

After the Lehigh Valley Championship, Tommy Hensel led the team with a .436 average with a team-high 24 hits and 18 RBIs. Gabe Sanno is at .382 with a team-high 30 RBIs. The team is hitting .280.

On the mound, Hensel is 6-0 with a 0.60 ERA and has 63 strikeouts in 46.2 innings. Brady Simock is 4-1 with a 1.92 ERA and has 41 strikeouts in 32.2 innings. The team has a 2.92 ERA.

Haupt was hoping his team was peaking at the right time, but in the end was still proud of the efforts.

“We moved on eight starters to Legion this year from last year’s state title team,” Haupt said. “These kids have learned a lot from last year’s team, and have a very similar makeup in that they don’t care what the challenge is, they are always ready for it.”
