Summer playground program well attended

The Salisbury Township Recreation Committee held a meeting July 17 to plan upcoming events and report on ongoing projects and programs being held throughout the township.

Recreation Director Genny Baillie reported the summer playground program was very well attended with the parks seeing an average 20-30 children each day in three of the township’s parks - Laubach, Lindberg and Devonshire. Children enjoyed using playground equipment, playing board games and participating in creative activities such as making tie-dye shirts. The last day of the summer program was held July 19 where Park Day celebrations were held to close out a successful summer program.

Pat Jacoby and Mark Wilson report many of the parks in the township are seeing a great deal of use by residents.

Lindberg Park pickleball courts and the playground continue to be busy and the park has seen a lot of picnics and celebrations taking place.

Green Acres Park is seeing an influx of visitors utilizing the park which coincides with the recent completion of new pickleball and basketball courts. Devonshire Park is due for a revamp in the form of refurbished bathrooms, new posts and lighting in the pavilion and in the future a macadam road will be placed to the pavilion.

The committee also discussed several upcoming events in the works for township residents to enjoy.

The 40th annual National Night Out will be held 6-8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Salisbury Elementary School. This event includes free food, drinks and entertainment. Emergency vehicles will also be on hand for a close-up look.

Mark your calendars for 4 p.m. Sept. 9 when the tribute band AM Radio will hold a free concert featuring songs from the 60s and 70s. To complement the event hot dogs, burgers, barbecue sandwiches and fries will be available for purchase from the Top of the Grill food truck.

Plans are also being made for the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony which will be held at Franko Park. The tree has been planted and much is being done to ensure a safe and memorable start to the holiday season.

The next meeting of the recreation committee will be held 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18.
