Letter to the Editor: If iconic Allentown building could talk

If the PPL Tower Building walls could talk, they might say:

Some of the most prominent community leaders walked my halls for nearly a century, making critical decisions that shaped the company into one of the top-ranking utilities in the country.

I provide the structure for dedicated employees who work diligently to keep the lights on for more than a million electric customers in Pennsylvania. And my co-workers successfully fought off a hostile takeover to keep my namesake and our legacy of service alive.

My lights on the rooftop are a beacon shining brightly, supporting hundreds of causes over the years. My windows can be seen for miles ushering in the holiday season with a stories-high tree and candle display.

Soon it will be time to say goodbye to my colleagues and longtime retirees. I thank you for your service and for making me an icon in our community.

No matter what may become my fate, you can be assured that I will stand tall looking over you.
