Parkland Library offers coffee, bingo for seniors

The adult senior coffee club met July 6 at Parkland Community Library, 4422 Walbert Ave., South Whitehall.

This get together takes place on the first Thursday of the month in the library’s meeting room.

Coffee and tea are available, as well as a muffin, cookie or baked sweet.

Good conversation is exchanged during the hour and those in attendance are often reluctant to leave.

Each time the group meets, attendance is greater.

Mariann Kmetz is the adult services coordinator at the library.

She began working at Parkland Library in 2016 as head of technical services and now focuses on programs for the senior adults in the Parkland area.

On the first Friday of each month there is bingo for adults beginning at 1 p.m.

Each month more seniors attend.

Bingo prizes are donated by those who attend, except for the last game, which is a gift card from Weis Markets.

Kmetz introduced a program called “Walking Book Club.”

Participants read a book before getting together at Covered Bridge Park where they discuss the book they have read.

The books are a series of five called, “The Walk,” by Richard Paul Evans.

The next Walking Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. on July 25 at 2465 Wehr Mill Road, South Whitehall, with a walk and talk. There is also a senior book club that meets at Luther Crest.

The group, which is considering celebrating birthdays, encouraging disc golf, and a trivia contest, will meet 1 p.m. Aug. 21 with snacks and prizes.

If you have questions, call Mariann Kmetz at 610-398-1361, ext. 117.

Meeting at the Parkland Community Library for conversation and coffee are Sylvia Adler, John Delcin, Marvin Adler and Faye Nau.
