WSVFC firefighters sharpen their air pack skills in special training

Press Photo by Jim Marsh Western Salisbury Volunteer Fire Company trainer Dev Kannan, a City of Reading professional firefighter, presents a training module on the care and use of Scott air packs, which allow interior firefighters to have up to 30 minutes of breathable air in their self-contained breathing apparatus when in a toxic air environment. Air packs are in a compartment at the back of each seating position on fire engines. This allows firefighters to don their protective gear at the fire station, then attach the air pack harness on the way to an incident. The presentation was part of drill night to keep firefighters up to date on their emergency skills. Training drills are held weekly.
