Alburtis police incidents drop in June

There were only a few items in administration at the July 12 Alburtis Borough Council meeting.

The meeting began without public comments.

Mayor Kathleen Palmer did not have a report for the evening.

In the Alburtis police report, incidents in June dropped when compared to May. The total number dropped from 140 to 132. Vehicle stops dropped from 72 to 53. One type of incident to note, follow-up investigations increased to 13, which is five more than any other month this year.

Following approval of those reports, the meeting minutes of June 28 and the bills for payment were quickly approved.

In the engineer’s report, there were a few updates on projects.

Ott Consulting Inc. submitted an estimate of how much the proposed improvements for the Bicentennial Village Infrastructure Improvement Project might cost. They used recent bid figures from similar projects to develop this estimate. The borough decided to split the bid package into a base bid and an add alternate so they can utilize the budget with more flexibility.

Interior manhole inspections were conducted for the Sewer Capacity Assurance and Rehabilitation Program.

The Franklin Street Multimodal Project is approximately 75 percent complete.

Several other projects were analyzed and concern was raised by council members about engineering costs. Ultimately, the report was approved.

The first item in administration was a request to advertise the Bicentennial Village Project for bid. The bid schedule showed bids will be due by Aug. 30. A review of the results and a defined project scope will be presented at the Sept. 13 Alburtis Borough Council meeting. The bid will be awarded at the Sept. 27 council meeting.

Mike Preston from Ott Consulting was in virtual attendance and took questions from council members. There were questions and complaints over the engineering costs and progression of the project. Council members wanted to review the revised cost and scope of the bid package for the project.

The request to advertise the bid was approved by council. The bid schedule will be sent out to residents as well. Bids can always be declined.

The last item was an advertisement for the National Night Out with the Alburtis Police Department. The police event will be held at the Alburtis Community Pool 6-8 p.m. Aug. 2. The pool address is 242 Walnut St., Alburtis.

The Alburtis National Night Out flyer asked the residents to “enjoy hot dogs and ice cream with friends, family and the community.”

The meeting was then adjourned.

The next Alburtis Borough Council meeting will take place July 28. Meetings start 7 p.m. and are held at Alburtis Borough Hall, 260 Franklin St., Alburtis.
