Whitehall No. 2 team falls just short of Connie Mack states

Whitehall’s Number 2 Connie Mack team won’t advance to the state tournament, but they enjoyed a successful season in the process.

The team finished with an overall 10-7 season mark, and they began the opening round of the Lehigh Valley Connie Mack tournament against Stroudsburg Monday. A win against Stroudsburg would propel them into the next round against second-seeded Southern Lehigh.

Whitehall finished seventh in the league and just fell short of the state tournament - under the new guidelines of having the top-six teams qualifying.

However, it still was a satisfying campaign as Whitehall was divided into two teams this summer.

“Making the state tournament was our goal this season, so we fell short unfortunately,” said manager Will Miller. “In the second half of the season, we had a lot of guys step up at different times, but the middle of our order, our number three, four and five hitters, really got hot down the stretch. They just got one big hit after another.”

Miller was referring to Jack Lloyd, Jacob Hannis, and Jordan Miller. Lloyd hit .525 with 11 RBIs and 14 runs. Hannis was at .467 with two homers, 12 RBIs, and tied for the team high in runs with 17; and Miller hit .278 with one homer and a team-high 19 RBIs.

In addition, Kam Morris hit .379 with 13 RBIs, Kolby Miller hit .361 with 10 RBIs, and Dylan Grohotolsky hit .324 with 13 RBIs.

Grohotolsky was 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA with 25 strikeouts in 32.1 innings. Lloyd was 2-1 with 4.40 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 20.2 innings, and Hannis was 2-0 with a 1.61 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 13 innings. Sudge Hoderewski was 0-1 with a 2.17 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 9.2 innings.

“Grohotolsky threw a complete-game, two-hitter when we faced Stroudsburg during the season,” added Miler about the team’s earlier 7-3 victory. “We’re hoping for a repeat performance.”

Despite not making the state tournament, Miller is confident his team can do well in the league event.

“We won six of our last eight games,” he said. “We just have to try and win the league championship.”
