Moore Twp. set for playoff time

Moore Township manager Jarad Haupt knew his club likely wouldn’t be hitting on all their cylinders this season after they won the state Connie Mack title last season.

That is, the Red Hawks had most of their players advance to Legion ball this summer.

Still, Moore Township finished the regular season with an overall 12-5 record and was the fifth seed for the playoffs that began this week. They will meet Franklin Township in the opening round that began Monday.

The Red Hawks also qualified for the state tournament that will be held in Limeport later this month.

Haupt was happy with the team’s performance.

“I’m pleased with our record,” stated Haupt. “This past week, we were missing seven guys on vacation. July 4th is a tough week to play baseball.

“Our kids have continued to work hard, and some have taken advantage of playing time when they are presented the opportunity when some of the everyday starters are away.”

Tommy Hensel leads the team with a .467 average with 14 RBIs and a team-high 19 hits. Gabe Sanno had a .409 average with a team-high 19 RBIs, and Billy Struhldreher was at .400 with a team-high 22 runs. Austin Sommers had a .378 average with 13 RBIs. The team had a .285 clip.

On the mound, Hensel had a 4-0 record with a 0.90 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 31 innings, and Brady Simock had a 4-1 mark with a 1.79 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 27.1 innings. Braydon Giandomenico had a 1-0 record with a 2.83 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 10 innings. The team had a 3.43 ERA.

Haupt also noted how their four defeats were prominent.

”Four of our five defeats are to the top four teams in front of us being South Parkland, Southern Lehigh, Nazareth, and Northern Valley,” he said. “Our other loss was to a solid Stroudsburg team.

“We haven’t had a bad loss all year.”

Heading into the postseason, the Red Hawks appear to be on track.

“We’ve played well,” added Haupt. “Our pitchers have continued to throw well, and we are scoring runs.”
