Joseph L. Quinn
Joseph L. Quinn, 86, of Lower Macungie Township, formerly of Schnecksville, died peacefully July 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family and dedicated caregivers at home.
He was the husband of Sarae E. (Eberhardt) Quinn for 52 years of happiness.
Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late Thomas G. and Anastasia “Stella” (Smerlick) Quinn.
He attended the Tamaqua Area School District, and honorably served his country with pride in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Specialist 4 with the military police serving mostly in Alaska.
He returned home and worked for the Bethlehem Steel Corp. for 37 years, the last 21 years as a car repairman in the narrow-gauge shop.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Emmaus.
Very passionate about golf, he enjoyed working part time at the bag drop at the Center Valley Golf Club from 2004 until it closed in 2012.
He was a member of the Mack Senior Golf League, of which he was champion in 2006 and 2007.
He was very proud of his trophy for the most accurate drive, and his hole in one at White Tail Golf Course.
Very proud of his Irish heritage, he was an ardent Notre Dame fan and rooted for the Oakland A’s since he was a young boy.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but mostly loved to travel with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Kerrie, wife of Todd A. Baker, of Alburtis, and gramps to his grandsons Jacob T. Baker and fiancée, Tara, of Lancaster, and Jared G. Baker of Blacksburg, Va.; brothers Thomas “Jerry” Quinn of Philadelphia and Francis Quinn and wife, Sandy, of Las Vegas; sisters-in-law Marie G. Quinn of Franklin, Tenn. and Arlene Quinn of Tamaqua; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his brothers Edward G. and John Quinn, and his first wife Ruthann (Sullivan) Quinn.
Services and interment, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Paul W. Knappenberger, will be private.
Honoring the wonderful care provided by his special aide Maryann and nurse Leslie, his family suggests memorial contributions be presented to Lehigh Valley Hospice, Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 1883, Allentown, PA 18105-9988 or to Animals in Distress, P.O. Box 609, Coopersburg, PA 18036.
