Despite inclement weather, St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 122 Union St., Catasauqua, held its annual block party on the church grounds and in the social hall. The June 22-24 event was well attended, with some activities moved indoors due to weather.
The block party provided attendees with a variety of food, with volunteers also serving adult beverages and other refreshments and ice cream and cake. There were games for kids and a gambling wheel for adults.
The popular bingo was held indoors. Bill Moyer, of Catasauqua, called the numbers.
The event also had a basket and gift card raffle. In addition, baked goods were included in the raffle.
Selling tickets was Kathy Moyer. She has volunteered for the block party for a number of years and is a longtime Catasauqua resident.
Block party leaders Kim Smith and David Domin were delighted with the event and the friendliness and sense of community that abounded. Both had hoped for better weather but were clearly satisfied with the turnout and the number of volunteers to staff the various food and adult beverages stands and games.
Mike Evans, of Whitehall, and Dennis Kelly, of Catasauqua, staffed the adult beverage stand. Evans entertained patrons with his sense of humor and friendly approachability that welcomed patrons to share jokes with him. That sure made for a party atmosphere.
DH Productions, of Bethlehem, provided music that moved indoors because of the weather. Heather Lynne, of Bethlehem, was the deejay, playing popular sounds that brought attendees to the dance floor.
Volunteers and organizers at the block party were tasked with running a fun event that satisfied all, as evidence by the smiles, laughing and dancing of attendees.
