Michael C. Erdman

Michael C. “Mike” Erdman, MSN, FNP-C, 48, of Kutztown, died July 1, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, after a sudden and unexpected medical incident June 19. He was the loving husband of Julie (Herbener) Erdman for 16 years. Born in Allentown, he was a son of Bruce F. and Jayne A. (McFarland) Erdman, of Wescosville.

He was a 1993 graduate of Emmaus High School. He continued his education at Lehigh County Community College graduating with an associate degree in nursing in 2005. He received his Bachelor of Science in nursing degree from Kutztown University in 2010 and his Master of Science in nursing - family nurse practitioner in 2014 from DeSales University.

He was employed by Lehigh Valley Health Network for 23 years. He began his career at LVHN working as a courier. He later worked as a registered nurse in the cardiac catheterization lab, then as a certified registered nurse practitioner in the neuroscience intensive care unit with many of the same colleagues who lovingly cared for him until the very end. Most recently, he worked as the TAVR program coordinator in the invasive cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery departments.

He served as an assistant Scoutmaster for Scout Troop 1018 of Kutztown and a former assistant Cub Scout Den Leader for Pack 101.

On any given morning, he could be found attempting to lift ALL the weights in the gym. He was in constant pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee which he enjoyed while catching up on his latest book of nonfiction or while watching or feeding the birds.

He was the in-house expert on animals, with a special love of birds, insects, reptiles and dinosaurs. He loved to be outdoors and could sit in the woods for endless hours in his latest pair of boots or sporting a new backpack.

He was an avid Marvel and Star Wars fan and would anxiously await the latest releases to enjoy with his family. He was an admitted news junkie who spent a bit too much time doom scrolling but was passionate about social and political issues in his community and the world.

His infectious laugh filled a room along with his larger-than-life personality and unmatched antics. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, friend and co-worker. In a final act of selflessness, he donated organs and tissue as a gift of life to others.

He is survived by his wife; parents; children, Sarah M. and her sons, Ryland and Roman, of Old Zionsville; Mason C., Finn M., both at home; brothers, Scott T., of Mertztown, Kris A., of Macungie; several nieces and nephews.
