Junior earns leadership award

Whitehall High School acknowledged and honored Olivia Mrazik, the 2023 recipient of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Leadership Award, during a ceremony May 30 at the high school.

This is a national program facilitated locally by West Point Society of the Lehigh Valley. The program sponsors high schools throughout the country since 1999.

Each year, these schools select a high school junior who exhibits exceptional performance and potential in the areas of academics, athletics, community service, good citizenship and leadership. Students selected for this award are presented with an individual plaque and a letter of recognition.

Olivia was presented this award by West Point graduate Paul Bento, who is also a member of West Point Society of the Lehigh Valley.

Olivia’s parents and sister were present for the award presentation.

In addition to the Eisenhower Award presentation, WHS celebrated its first military signing day by honoring four students and their families as they prepare to graduate and enter the military. These students are Clarissa Cachenales, who is entering the U.S. Navy; Yaliannie Guzman, who is entering the U.S. Marines; and Steven Mikitz, who is entering the U.S. Army. Not present was Melanie Franco, whose plans include the U.S. Army Reserve.
