Joseph L. Quinn

Joseph L. Quinn, 86, of Lower Macungie Township, formerly of Schnecksville, died July 5, 2023, peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and dedicated caregivers. He was the husband of Sarae E. (Eberhardt) Quinn for 52 years. Born in Mahanoy City, he was the son of the late Thomas G. and Anastasia “Stella” (Smerlick) Quinn.

He attended the Tamaqua Area School District and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Spc. 4 with the military police serving mostly in Alaska.

He worked for Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 37 years, the last 21 years as a car repairman in the narrow-gauge shop.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Emmaus.

He was very passionate about golf and enjoyed working part time at the bag drop at the Center Valley Golf Club from 2004 until it closed in 2012. He was a member of the Mack Senior Golf League, of which he was champion in 2006 and 2007. He was very proud of his trophy for the most accurate drive and his hole in one at White Tail Golf Course.

He was proud of his Irish heritage and was an ardent Notre Dame fan. He rooted for the Oakland A’s since he was a young boy. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but most loved to travel with his wife.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Kerrie and her husband, Todd A. Baker, of Alburtis; grandsons, Jacob T. Baker and his fiance, Tara, of Lancaster, Jared G. Baker, of Blacksburg, Va.; brothers, Thomas “Jerry,” of Philadelphia, Francis and his wife, Sandy, of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Marie G., of Franklin, Tenn., Arlene, of Tamaqua; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward G., John; first wife, Ruthann (Sullivan).

Services are private. Arrangements were made by the Gilbert Funeral Home, Whitehall.
