Wanderers set to make run at title

The Wanderers are on a roll in NORCO Legion and they hope that trend continues toward the playoffs where they hope to get a shot of redemption after last year’s opening round defeat.

The team enters the postseason with a 7-2 record and will look to make up for a disappointing ending from last summer’s exit.

“As always, our goal is a championship and a regional tournament berth,” said Wanderers’ manager Paul Walsh. “This particular roster is filled with guys who have had a lot of high school playoff success over the last few years. They are hungry to win it all, and that’s our goal.”

After a 1-1 start, the team won six straight games, giving up nine runs in the process to push them to the upper tier of the standings, before losing to top-seeded Northampton last week 3-0

With Northampton and Birches battling with the club for the top spot this season, the hierarchy has been set. After winning the league crown in 2021, falling short last year after Liberty’s run to the state finals may have been anti-climactic, but the club seems primed to make up for it this time around.

“It was another difficult year in terms of getting backed up because of Liberty’s playoff run,” Walsh said. “We have 12 players from Liberty’s varsity roster this season. With such a condensed schedule, it is critical for the guys to build chemistry as soon as

possible. Having a lot of the Liberty players has certainly helped with this as those guys have played together for a long time.”

The NORCO tournament began this week with the two division winners earning byes, followed by the next best six teams with .500 records.
