Moore Township continues to play well
Moore Township isn’t totally thinking about defending their Connie Mack championship this season. It is a different club than last season, as most of their players from last year have moved on to Legion ball.
The Redhawks did begin to peak roughly about the same time last season. This season, however, manager Jarad Haupt is looking at his club moving forward at a slower pace this season.
With their 10-4 win over the Knights recently, Moore Township raised their overall record to 10-4 at the time.
“We did lose a lot of guys from last year,” explained Haupt. “At first, we didn’t know what to expect. We’re actually doing better than expected. We’re pretty happy with everything at this point.”
The Redhawks have been paced by pitchers Brady Simock and Tommy Hensel. Simock had a 4-1 record with a 2.29 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. Hensel had a 2-1 record with a 1.55 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 18 innings.
Brayden Giandomenico (1-0, 2.11) and Brandon Downey (1-0, 4.20) also have started games for the Konkrete Kids. They had a 2.70 team ERA.
“Those two are at the top of our rotation,” said Haupt about Simock and Hensel. “We have been able to have them throw our games, but our schedule will get busier. We know we have to get some other guys involved.”
Offensively, Austin Sommers (.500), Hensel (.438) and Gabe Sanno (.400) were the leading hitters. Sanno had a team-high 15 RBIs, and Sommers had 12. Hensel led the team with 14 hits.
Haput also cited the play of Billy Struhldreher, the team’s leadoff hitter with a .389 average and a .722 on-base percentage. The team had a .278 average.
“Sommers, Hensel, and Sanno have been off to unbelievable starts,” added Haupt. “Billy has done a great job in the leadoff spot for us, and has set the table for us.
“We have a lot of guys that we haven’t coached before or spent little time with them, and they have been following the leads of Austin, Tommy, Gabe, and Billy.”
Haupt believes his team will soon be able to determine their future route.
“We have a string of five games in seven days,” he said. “We’ll learn our destiny. I believe we will continue to hit the ball, and we’ll have to find some pitchers to step up.”
