Upper Milford supervisors began their June 1 meeting with a moment of silence for Michael E. Ruyak Jr.
Ruyak died May 26.
Ruyak exemplified what it means to serve a community, volunteering with different organizations throughout his life.
He joined the Upper Milford Western District Fire company in 1974, serving as a firefighter, treasurer and as captain since 1994. He was also the AARP local coordinator for income tax since 1995 and the treasurer for the Macungie Ambulance Corps from 1984-2012.
He was also a proud husband, father and grandfather.
In other meeting news, Upper Milford Township Manager Bud Carter explained the information sent out to residents about the Macungie Tap Line Construction.
Tap line upgrades will be conducted through August 2025 from Hosensack to Macungie.
Grass cutting of one-third of an acre on Hivel Und Dahl property was discussed. Cost would be less than $100 per cut for less than an hour of work.
Township solicitor Marc Fisher raised concerns this is private property and an agreement between both parties would be needed.
No decision was made.
Christopher Canavan and Steve Schaffer explained the detour route for the water line installation along the development road frontage for Estates at Maple Ridge. The detour will be in effect 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. workdays.
The Animal Waste Ordinance was discussed by supervisors. Planning Coordinator Brian Miller wrote to the board explaining on May 30, the Upper Milford Township Planning Commission recommended the adoption of draft Ordinance #171 on the Animal Waste Ordinance.
The discussion focused on the language to define animal waste.
