With the summer months here, Northampton County Emergency Management Services is providing residents with helpful information and tips to help protect you and others from the extreme heat. Some advice includes creating a communication plan with your family before extreme heat hits, having emergency supplies in place at home, at work and in the car and listening to local officials.

Roughly 40% of unwanted heat buildup in homes is through windows. Use awnings and curtains to keep the heat out. Fans alone are not enough in high heat and humidity. Get inside in air conditioning or go to a public place like the library, museum or shopping mall.

REAL ID has been extended again. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has postponed the enforcement date for REAL ID, with the new deadline set as May 7, 2025.

As of that date, you will need to present a federally accepted form of identification to board a commercial domestic flight or visit a secure federal building that requires ID at the door. Federally accepted forms of identification include a Pennsylvania REAL ID driver’s license or ID card, a U.S. passport or a military ID.
