NAHS students excel in university’s annual Biology Merit Exam

Northampton Area High School students in Mr. Jones’ AP biology class took part in Clemson University’s department of biological sciences’ 44th annual Biology Merit Exam April 21. The event was held online for 378 middle and high school students organized into three divisions.

Division I was middle school students who completed or were enrolled in life sciences or high school students with credit for middle school life science only. Division II was high school students who completed or were enrolled in their first biology course.

NAHS was part of Division III, which is for high school students who completed or were enrolled in a second year of a high school life science.

NAHS’ Joseph Tomaro Jr. placed third overall out of all the students.

NAHS also had three students earn honorable mention - Ashlen O’Brien, Elijah Block and Benjamin Howells.

Logan Berger earned second honorable mention.
