Commissioners discuss new road change

At the July 3 workshop meeting, Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners discussed three ordinances, which are to be voted on at the next meeting.

The first two deal with amending sections of the township’s codified ordinances.

Bill 24-2023 would establish Center Alley from Hillcrest Lane to Main Street as a one-way road, with traffic traveling northbound. A township resident living near Riley’s Pub has a private alleyway on Stewart Lane. Commissioners noted the alley is being used by delivery trucks that are getting stuck on the narrow road and subsequently damaging the resident’s house. The board and the resident are hoping the one-way designation will eliminate the problem.

Commissioners also discussed an ordinance that would create 100 feet of 15-minute parking along the west side of Front Street. Delivery trucks to a local business are being forced to double-park due to long-term visitors taking up all the spots in front of the establishment.

The other is a request from Chuck E. Cheese at Lehigh Valley Mall. The entertainment business is completing renovations in and around the building. However, there have been complaints about the noise. If called out, the police have to enforce the noise ordinance. If granted, the special permit would allow construction between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., barring any limits created by the board.

The board of commissioners next meet 7 p.m. July 10 at the municipal building, 3219 MacArthur Road.
