Trojans suffer first setbacks of season

South Parkland had it’s Lehigh Valley Legion unbeaten streak ended last week. The Trojans (7-2-1) remain in first play by a slight margin over Northern Valley (6-3) with just over a week left in the regular season.

Here’s a look at some of South Parkland’s recent results.

Tuesday, June 13

South Parkland-North Parkland

North Parkland scored the game-tying run in the bottom of the seventh as the game would end tied, 4-4, following eight innings.

After falling behind 3-0 following the opening frame, the Trojans scored two runs in the top of the second, one in the fourth and then the go-ahead run in the fifth.

Andrew Klotz and Kurt Meehan both finished with two hits and two RBIs.

Thursday, June 15

South Parkland-Southern Lehigh (doubleheader)

South Parkland won back-to-back games against Southern Lehigh in a doubleheader, winning game one 3-2 and then game two 6-2.

The Trojans scored twice in the opening frame and then once more in the fifth. Mack Parcell and Ben Stay combined to keep the Spartans at bay offensively in the opener. Stay had two hits at the plate and Connor Gerhart recorded an RBI.

Mack Parsell and Ben Stay combined to allow just four hits in the win. Parsell went three innings and gave up two hits and no earned runs. Stay hurled four innings and allowed two hits and one run while striking out three batters.

In the nightcap, South Parkland strengthened a 2-0 lead after five into a 5-0 lead following a three-run sixth. The Trojans doubled up the Spartans in hits at 12-6 and were led by three hits each from Muhammad Curtis and Jack Streeter.

Sean Superka pitched five innings and allowed four hits and no runs while striking out five Spartan batters.

Friday, June 16

Carbon-South Parkland

South Parkland had an easy time of taking down Carbon, winning 12-2 in five innings for their third consecutive victory.

The Trojans scored all 12 runs in the first three innings of play. Jaiden Wanamaker got the scoring going with an RBI single in the first. He paced the lineup with two hits. Stay, Meehan, Nilay Patel and Michael Kohler all tallied two RBIs.

Owen Delong pitched five innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out four Monarch batters.

Monday, June 19

Northern Valley-South Parkland

The Trojans had their three-game win streak snapped with a 6-4 defeat to Northern Valley.

Northern Valley scored twice in its first at-bats and then added another run in the third to take a 3-0 lead, but South Parkland tied the game with a three-run, bottom of the third inning.

The game, however, was decided the next frame as Northern Valley added two more runs to the board and was able to hold on late.

Four different Trojans had a hit apiece, including Klotz, Meehan, Parsell and John Friday. Friday and Wanamaker had an RBI each.

Tuesday, June 20

South Parkland-Salisbury

Salisbury scored twice in the final inning to walk-off for a 3-2 victory.

Parsell got the scoring going for South Parkland with a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning. The Falcons tied the game at one with a run in the bottom of the second. Stay also had an RBI hit for the Trojans in the top of the fourth to give his team a 2-1 lead.

Five South Parkland players all had a hit, including Parsell, Stay, Friday, Sean Superka and Xander Provence.
