Spisszak hurls two-hitter, leads Falcons past Lower Mac

Salisbury won two games in Lehigh Valley Legion last week.

The Falcons beat the Carbon Monarchs and Lower Macungie to move into a tie for fourth place in the 8-team league.

Last Tuesday, June 13, against Carbon, Austin Spisszak pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout to lead the Falcons to a 9-0 win.

Jake Zellin went 3-for-4 against the Monarchs, driving in a pair of runs. Dominic Popovich went 2-for-3 in the win.

Two days later the Falcons scored five runs in the last two innings to beat Lower Macungie 7-3.

Leading 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning, Salisbury scored a pair of runs to extend its lead, then plated three more in the seventh inning before the Mustangs’s attempted comeback fell short after two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Tyler Kuder went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the win over Lower Macungie. Dominic Garcia was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Andrew Grejda got the win, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one earned run on eight hits while striking out four and walking one. Garcia came into record the final out of the game.

Through last week’s game, Salisbury is 3-5 in the LVL and tied for fourth place with Lower Macungie. South Parkland sits atop the standings at 7-0-1. Northern Valley (5-2) is in second place, followed by North Parkland (3-2-1) in the third place.

The Falcons have nine games remaining on their schedule, which ends with a home game against North Parkland on June 30. Salisbury is slated to end the season with four homes games next week, playing Allentown Monday and Tuesday at Salisbury High School, then hosting Northern Valley on Thursday.
