LM wins four straight LVL games

With less than a week left in the Lehigh Valley Legion regular season, Lower Macungie has improved to 7-5 in league play and entered this week in a second-place tie in the league standings.

The Mustangs won four straight games last week to move from under .500 to two games above it. The Mustangs outscored opponents 49-8 over that stretch with two of the wins coming via shut out.

Tyler Geist pitched six innings and allowed two hits in a 13-0 win over Southern Lehigh last Monday, June 19. He struck out three batters and walked none. Benjamin Yartymyk pitched one hitless inning to finish off the win.

Dayne Schmidt went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the win. He reached base five times in the game as he also walked twice. Ryan Bennett went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the win. Joseph Cook, Zachary McEllroy and Michael Kernechel all had two hits each in the game.

Lower Mac traveled to Jim Thorpe a day later and beat the Carbon Monarchs 10-6. After falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Mustangs posted five runs in the third and one in the fifth before breaking a 6-6 tie with four runs in the last inning.

McEllroy went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored in the win. Karson Krasley also went 3-for-4 while scoring twice for Lower Mac. Kaden Muller was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in. Nine Mustang batters had at least one hit in the game.

In its third game in three days, Lower Mac shut out Southern Lehigh 14-0 in five innings as McEllroy and Muller combined to pitch a one-hit shutout.

McEllroy pithed three innings and didn’t allow a hit while striking out one and walking none. Muller pitched two innings and allowed one hit while striking out one and walking none.

McEllroy also stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs. Schmidt was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Taylor Davis went 2-for-2 with three runs. Ian Cederberg went 2-for-2 with a run batted in.

The Mustangs capped the week with a 12-2 win in six innings Sunday over Northern Valley at Northwestern Lehigh High School.

Davis pitched five innings and allowed six hits and both runs while striking out two batters. Muller pitched one inning and allowed one hit and no runs.

Bennett, Muller, Drew McGeehan and Mason Uyvari all had two hits each in the game. McGeehan and Uyvari drove in three runs apiece while McGeehan also scored twice.

Heading into this week Lower Mac has four games remaining and was tied with Northern Valley (7-5) and just ahead of Salisbury (6-5) in the league standings. South Parkland entered the week at 9-2-1 and was close to clinching the league’s regular season title.

Lower Macungie had four games remaining on the schedule as of Monday evening. The Mustangs were slated to take on South Parkland Tuesday (June 29) then host Allentown Thursday, travel to Allentown Sunday and finish off the schedule at North Parkland on Monday, July 3.
