LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Summer park program continues through July 21

The Wildlands Conservancy in Emmaus has so many interesting and fun activities over the summer. One that caught my eye was called You & Me at Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary: Mud Monsters. This is for a parent and child team for children ages 3-5 to learn about nature while playing in the mud, held 9:30-11 a.m. July 5. You know you want to! Visit wildlandspa.org for more classes and registration information.

The Salisbury Township Summer Park Program has started at Laubach, Lindberg, Devonshire and Green Acres parks. The program will run through July 21. The hours will be 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday and 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday evenings.

This elementary-aged program is for Salisbury Township residents’ children who have completed kindergarten through the age of 12 years old.

Participants are to register at the park location they will be attending.

There is no preregistration. Registration is required before dropping off your child for the first time. The form is available on the township website or at the parks. The Salisbury Township Summer Park Program will no longer be held at Green Acres Park this year due to low attendance. Alternative parks are Lindberg and Devonshire.

DeSales University’s Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival is in full swing. This year’s children’s play is “James and the Giant Peach” by Ronald Dahl. The show runs July 7 through Aug. 5 at the Schubert Theatre. This is such a fun experience for the kids because there is a carpet all around the stage for the children to sit on so they all have a front row seat and an autograph session after the show. For ticket information, visit pashakespeare.org/shows or call 610-282-9455. I highly recommend this. While you are at it, check out the shows for adults, too.

National Night Out is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Salisbury Elementary School. This event is hosted by the Salisbury Police Department. It is a night of fun, games and food. The Salisbury Police Department is looking for basket donations for the evening’s basket raffle. For more information, contact Cpl. Kevin Kress at kkress@salisburytownshippa.org. Let’s show our support for our local police department.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church’s next summer concert is right around the corner. The Cedar Routes country gospel group will perform 7 p.m. July 8 on the grove deck, weather permitting.

The Salisbury Yard Waste Drop-off sites are open for the season. The Franko site is open June 29, July 1 and 10. Devonshire is open July 3, 6 and 8. As always, hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.

The Allentown Public Library Summer Reading Club, “All Together Now” is open to any child 0–18 now through Aug. 5. Students will receive a reading/activity log filled with things to do this summer. As the log is completed, students will earn prizes and be entered in the raffle for a grand prize.

The library is at 1210 Hamilton St., Allentown. More information can be found by calling 610-820-2400 or visit www.allentownpl.org.

The adult summer reading program runs through Aug. 4 and there is an opportunity for prizes as well. Visit www.allentownpl.org for more information.
