Hollywood animator to visit EPL July 5

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stop by for a visit and learn more about this history-filled community.
The historical society will not have membership meetings and programs in July and August but there is still so much to see and do. Visit the museum on Saturdays and mark your calendars for Passport to History, July 21-23. The Emmaus Historical Society will be open 5-8 p.m. July 21 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 22 and July 23. Activities will include a self-guided museum tour, children’s crafts, light refreshments, new museum displays and more. These events are free and open to members and nonmembers.
The society is selling Dan Schantz Monthly Madness Cards. Stop in the museum Saturdays to purchase your cards or call the museum to place an order at 610-966-6591. Cards will also be available at all society sponsored events.

The Emmaus Public Library will hold many entertaining events this summer. Every Wednesday through Aug. 30 (except July 26) will feature Summer Story Time with Miss Sue 10:30-11 a.m. All ages are welcome and no sign up is required. Story time will occur inside or outside depending on weather. The theme for this 10-week story time session is “All Together Now,” including stories, songs and art.
Hollywood animator Eddie Fitzgerald will visit the Emmaus Public Library 2-3 p.m. July 5. Guests will discover the beauty of animation from a true master. Fitzgerald worked in the Los Angeles animation industry for decades, where he created storyboards, designed, wrote, directed and produced for television shows, movies and video games. Fitzgerald was involved in projects for Disney, Warner Bros., DreamWorks, Cartoon Network, Universal and others. During his career, Fitzgerald worked on the hit shows “Ren and Stimpy,” “Tiny Toon Adventures” and was even the inspiration for the mouse Pinky in the cartoon “Pinky and the Brain.” If interested in attending, all tweens, teens and adults must RSVP by emailing eplkids@cliu.org, calling 610-965-9284 or stopping by the front desk.
The library will host Yoga Story Time with Larissa Noto of The Lovely Little Lotus July 11 and 25 and Aug. 1, 8 and 15. The session will run 10-11 a.m. for all pre-K and elementary age children. Each session will conclude with a healthy snack.
The “Lincoln at Gettysburg” event will occur 6-7 p.m. July 17 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room at the library. The night will offer a discussion of Lincoln’s “Gettysburg Address,” led by Joseph Garrera, the executive director of the Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum. All adults are asked to register by emailing eplcollection@cliu.org, calling 610-965-9284 or by signing up at the desk.
“Find Your Ancestors” night at the library is held 5-7 p.m. every third Wednesday of the month. All adults may sign up for a 30-minute slot by emailing eplcollection@cliu.org or by calling the library at the phone number above. Your slot will include personalized research utilizing the library’s genealogy resources, with help from genealogy genius Chris Appleby. Come discover your family tree and much more.
The library will be closed July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. No items are due and no fines accrue when the library is closed. Items may be returned to any EPL book drop or Lehigh Carbon Library Cooperative library.
From March through November, the Electronic Waste Dumpster is open noon to 6 p.m. on the second Monday of the month or until the dumpster is full – whichever happens first. The E-Waste Dumpster will be open July 10. Whitetail Disposal provides a 30-yard container at 33 Klines Lane, Emmaus and Whitetail employees will assist residents in unloading and disposing of their electronics. Items will only be accepted on designated days during approved hours and residents must display their identification to the attendant for proof of residency. Items from outside the Borough of Emmaus will not be accepted and no hazardous material is eligible for disposal at these E-Waste events. Residents may drop off three electronic devices for free, but must pay $10 for disposal of each additional item. The next Emmaus Borough Council meeting will be held 6-7 p.m. July 17 at the temporary borough offices, 420 S. 10th St., Emmaus. The meeting is also accessible via Zoom and the meeting ID and pass code are available through the Borough of Emmaus online calendar.
Are you looking for a fun and intense workout? Come and enjoy free Zumba at Emmaus Community Park in the Sam Landis Arts Pavilion. The classes will take place 8:45 a.m. Saturdays and Tuesdays and 6 p.m. Thursdays. Aqua Zumba will be held 6:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays at the Emmaus Community Pool for a small cost. Donations are accepted at any of these Zumba events.
The Emmaus Community Pool is now open for its regular season. Regular pool hours are noon to 8 p.m., seven days per week, weather permitting. The pool will be cleared nightly 7:45 p.m. to allow for patrons to exit the facility. Emmaus, in collaboration with the Emmaus Recreation and Entertainment Commission, will host a Flick N’ Float June 30 showing “Moana,” with July 1 as a rain date at the Emmaus Community Pool. The pool will close 7 p.m. to prepare; doors will open 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin 8 p.m. Tickets will be sold for a small cost, but children 5 and younger will be admitted without charge. You may purchase your tickets in advance through https://boroughofemmaus.recdesk.com/community/program. During this event only, certain personal flotation devices will be allowed in the pool, but they must not be a distraction to the lifeguards on duty or a danger to other patrons. Rafts, oversized floats and any items that may obstruct the lifeguards’ view of the water are not permitted. Permitted items include inner tubes, swim rings, armbands, pool noodles and mesh seats. Speak with the pool manager or the assistant manager with inquiries.
Would you like your child to feel safer in the water this summer? There’s still time to enroll in swim lessons. The Emmaus Community Pool is partnering with Emmaus Aquatic Club to offer swim lessons.
