St. Peter Roman Catholic Church joined forces with Coplay Public Library to raise funds for the organizations with a chicken dinner and basket raffle, held May 13 at the church, 4 S. Fifth St., Coplay.
The dinner was held both for in-person dining and takeout. Dinners were assembled by a dedicated volunteer kitchen team.
Terry Kuchera, volunteer and public works employee, was busy with the rest of the kitchen team. Rick Wargo and Roxanne Turk worked to serve the dinners to those opting to eat in the social hall.
Janet Eisenhauer, Coplay Borough Council member and library board president, joined Jane Gillespie, Katrina Klinger and Sharon Dougherty to sell raffle tickets for the prize baskets to benefit the library. Library board member Faye Schreiner and Karen Stoisits assisted with the raffle.
Jim and Betty Kern and Beverly and Mike Sobchak dined with Pastor Monsignor David James. In addition to his pastoral duties at the church, James is the Diocese of Allentown’s vicar general.
A vicar general in the Roman Catholic Church exercises the bishop’s ordinary executive power over the entire diocese. He is the highest official in a diocese after the diocesan bishop. A vicar general is appointed by the diocese bishop.
The dinner and basket raffle to benefit both organizations has become an annual event. A mixture of hungry patrons and volunteers come together for a fun event while raising funds for these two organizations.
