Paul S. Fichter, 78, of Lehighton, died June 20, 2023. Born in New Jersey, he soon moved with his family to Emmaus, where he spent his formative years.
He especially enjoyed playing on the Emmaus High School football team where he bonded for life with several of his teammates.
After time at Moravian College, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and spent a year of his service in Vietnam during the height of the Vietnam War. He maintained a lifetime friendship with close Army veterans. After returning to civilian life, he was very active in the Vietnam Veterans Against the War and Vets for Peace. He came back a changed person for the rest of his life.
He was self-employed and moved to the mountains after the passing of his mother, Muriel. He was a dedicated care giver to his mother during her last years. He was at peace in his mountain home living a fairly isolated life, much to his liking.
He often volunteered at Forgotten Felines & Fidos, Inc.
He is survived by his brother, Bruce and his wife, Pat; nephew, Mark; niece, Shannon and her two children, Zach and Kacey.
Contributions in remembrance of Paul can be made to Forgotten Felines & Fidos, Inc., Germansville.
A small Celebration of Life is planned in the future. Arrangements were made by the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus.
